Motorists should expect delays on I-65 north near the Montevallo/Calera exit 228 this week. The Alabama Department of Transportation will close the outside lane of I-65 at 9 a.m. June 11 through June 15 to install a new foundation and a flashing warning beacon. The lanes will reopen at 3 p.m. each day. See details from ALDOT below: Planned Lane Closures on I-65 NB in Shelby County Calera – During the week of June 11-15, beginning at approximately 9 a.m. each morning, weather conditions permitting, the Alabama Department of Transportation will close the I-65 northbound outside (right) lane to install a foundation and flashing warning beacon on the I-65 northbound outside (right) shoulder at the State Route 25 Interchange (Montevallo/Calera Exit 228), beginning at milepost 228.0 to milepost 228.2. The northbound ramps will remain open to traffic at all times. All travel lanes will be reopened to traffic no later than 3 p.m. each day. The lane will be closed in the area for the time needed to drill, form and pour a concrete foundation. Once the concrete has cured, crews will install the pole, sign, and flashing beacon unit.
Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this Maintenance Operation to improve Alabama's roadways. For additional road closure information, visit www.dot.state.al.us.
