After a strong performance in the 2nd round of the Regions Tradition, Bill Glasson kept his spot as the leader on Friday. Glasson hit every Shoal Creek fairway and gained a two-stroke lead over Russ Cochran with a 3-under 69. During this round, Glasson counted four birdies and a single bogey on the 16th hole. Cochran posted at 9-under 135 through the first 36 holes and saw his only bogey at hole 10. He recovered with birdies at holes 12, 15 and 16. Glasson, who made his Champions Tour debut in Birmingham two years ago, marked the first time he has been in the lead after 36 holes since the 1994 TOUR Championship where he finished T4. This could be his first TOUR victory since the 1997 Las Vegas Invitational. Four other players found their first Champions Tour wins at the Regions Tradition - Jack Nicklaus (1990), Tom Kite (2000), Loren Roberts (2005) and Eduardo Romero (2006). Russ Cochran is hoping to make his fourth career title on the Champions Tour. Winning at the Regions Tradition would be his first since winning the Senior British Open Championship last July in London, England. The last 36-hole leader to win the Regions Tradition was Tom Watson in 2003, when he enjoyed a four-stroke lead through two rounds with a 10-under 62. After three rounds, Watson trailed Jim Ahern by one stroke, but managed to win by a stroke on Sunday. The biggest moves of the day go to Bob Tway and Kenny Perry who both started at T44 and carded 5-under 67's to jump 33 spots in the standings. Brad Bryant has the most birdies through the 36 holes with 12.
