A domestic violence warrant has been obtained against a Gadsden man charged with beating his girlfriend. Gadsden police have charged Deontavious Lywon Ruffin, 19, with first degree domestic violence for a beating that left his 20-year-old girlfriend with a "severe laceration" to her eye and other injuries. The victim needed immediate surgery for the cut to her eye and was treated at the Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Police responded to the hospital June 6 around 10:15 p.m. after the victim checked in seeking treatment. Captain Regina May with Gadsden PD says the beating happened in the 600 block of North 6th Street on Wednesday, June 6.
Ruffin is not yet in police custody. His bond is set at $50,000. According to the Etowah County Sheriff's Office website, Ruffin was charged with third degree domestic violence in January 2012.
