A Weaver man is facing an attempted murder charge after a grand jury indicted him last month for allegedly striking a man with his vehicle near his home in 2009.
Henry Lee Wesley, 44, was booked into the Calhoun County Jail on Thursday with bond set at $100,000. The Calhoun County grand jury returned an indictment against Wesley on May 11.
Calhoun County Sheriff Larry Amerson stated that in 2009 that Wesley and his cousin, Mark Cunningham, got into an argument while working on a car at Wesley’s home on Weaver Lane. Amerson said Cunningham left the residence after Wesley went into the house to retrieve a baseball bat. Cunningham told police Wesley pursued him in his car and veered off the road to hit him.
Cunningham was later treated at Regional Medical Center for body and head injuries.
Wesley had previously been charged with assault in the crime.
It was not immediately clear why the grand jury only recently returned the attempted murder indictment.
Wesley is scheduled for an arraignment hearing on June 28 at 9 a.m. in Calhoun County Court.
