An accident involving several vehicles at the University Boulevard has shut down part of I-65 northbound and slowed traffic in both directions. All northbound lanes have been closed down from the Green Springs Highway exit northward while investigators examine the accident scene and clean it up. Two lanes of I-65 southbound are also closed and officers expect to have to close I-65 southbound at some point tonight as part of their investigation. Birmingham Police Sergeant Johnny Williams says two people died when a pickup truck traveling southbound flipped over the median and landed on a passenger van traveling northbound. The passenger in the van died instantly. There were three people traveling in the pickup truck; one is in critical condition at a hospital, one has serious injuries, and one passenger is deceased.
