Pitching was the main factor in this game for the gamecocks. Jacksonville State’s senior pitcher Daniel Watts recorded 11 strikeouts in the game setting the OVC record for strikeouts in a single game. “I thought Daniel was outstanding on the mound,” said JSU head coach Jim Case. “He was as dominate as you will see in college baseball,” Case stated. Watts finished the game only throwing 69 pitches as 49 were for strikes. He did not issue any walks and did give up a hit until the sixth inning with two outs remaining. Thanks to the bats of Sam Eberle and Ben Waldrip, they obatained three hits a piece bringing in six of the 12 runs scored. Scott Underwood continues to reach base with his hit streak of seven games as Eberle has a six game hitting streak. As JSU advances in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament, confidence is being distributed throughout the team and they are eager to play again. The Gamecocks next matchup will be against Eastern Kentucky at 11a.m. on Friday May 25.
