The Small Business Administration and AARP team up to provide training and counseling to older Americans, who are interested in starting a business or who already have an existing business. There will be training courses that will be offered online through SBA’s website. Both SBA and AARP plan to train about 100,000 entrepreneurs over the age of 50 through their counseling and mentoring courses.
Karen Mills, an administrator for SBA, said that ““No matter what your age, if you have an idea or a business that’s ready to move to the next level, the SBA wants to make sure you have access to the tools you need to start and grow,” so SBA has created a webpage for Americans 50 and over, which includes a self assessment to help business owners start, plan, finance their business. Other online courses and webinar series will be available for older entrepreneurs. Some of the course topics include start-up basics, finance strategies, marketing tactics and overseas trade.
For most Americans over 50 owning a business is an option and usually is the chance to explore a second career that can be very profitable if it succeeds.
