Deputies have apprehended an armed man who tried to carjack a parent at Southeastern School in Remlap. The suspect was taken into custody around 3 p.m., according to the Blount County Schools Assistant Superintendent Rodney Green. Green also says that no one was hurt and a lock down on the school has been lifted. According to Principal Michael Peoples, his secretary first noticed the suspect inside the school, wandering around. She told Peoples that the man was "acting crazy," speaking loudly and asking repeatedly for a key. Principal Peoples called police and approached the suspect, asking him to leave. Peoples said the man went outside to the parking lot and tried to carjack a parent, who was in the car with her children. Peoples said when he tried to stop the man, he pulled a gun. Peoples was able to get the parent and children away from the suspect and inside the school. The school was locked down at that point while the suspect fled the scene. Deputies from Jefferson and Blount counties searched the area around the school, finally locating the man in a wooded area behind the campus. According to Green, the man's vehicle had malfunctioned near the school and he went to the school with a gun in an attempt to get another vehicle. Authorities are questioning the suspect now and have not yet released his identity.
