Some lanes of I-20/59 were to reopen by 3:00pm CT, after a serious wreck involving a tractor trailer truck.
The wreck happened about 12:00pm CT near the Avenue I exit in Ensley.
Birmingham Police say the trailer fire was caused by a coolant system hooked up to the 18 wheeler.
Authorities say the cargo was not explosive. The trailer was carrying candy.
The Birmingham Police Department reports the truck hit a concrete barrier, and the cab and trailer detached, and both parts landed on the barrier.
The trailer part caught fire, but was not carrying hazardous cargo.
No one was injured, and no other vehicles were involved.
Crews were to remove the truck's cab by 3:00pm CT or so, and then reopened 2 lanes to both northbound and southbound traffic.
The trailer will remain on the barrier through rush-hour traffic, and will be removed later Wednesday night.
