- Get ready for major traffic delays along the interstate in Birmingham. ALDOT officials plan to repave a 10-mile stretch from Interstate 20/59, near Messer Airport Highway, to Interstate 459. Right now, they are seeking bids this summer on the estimated $37 million project. This won't be a quick fix. ALDOT says the road work could last until fall 2013.
