The mother of Jaqures Walker, the 13-year-old robbery suspect killed by the man he allegedly attempted to rob at gunpoint, speaks about her son and what happened Friday night. Latonya Walker, Jaqures' mother, says this is not the kind of behavior she knew of her son. She said the young man she knew was loving and respectful. "I'm angry. I'm hurt. I don't know what I am. It's just all balled up in me," she said. Walker said Friday night around 9 p.m., she and her husband arrived at their East Lake home to find her middle son Jaqures, known as "Tez," sitting with some friends. A short time later, she says she saw a gray Chevy Trailblazer pull up. Tez told his mom they were friends and hopped inside. Walker says she went out to see how old the friends were. "I said, 'Hey Tez, where you going son?' And he said, "Mom, I'm going to the store, I'll be right back...I didn't get a chance to see them but normally, if he says he's going to the store, he's going to the store because it was Friday and 9 p.m. You know your curfew," Walker said. After hours passed and her son didn't come home, Walker called police. When he still wasn't home by morning, she called police again. That's when one of the boys he was with called too, asking for Tez. "I said Tez left with you and so you need to tell me where he's at. He told me he had dropped him off at some apartments on Greensprings," Walker said. The boy called back later and changed his story to say he had dropped Tez off at some apartments in West End. That's when Layona Walker decided to go searching for her son herself. She says while she was looking for him, police called with the news that her son had been killed as he attempted to rob a couple returning to their condominium. As she tries to deal with her son's death, Walker says she is left searching for answers. "So I don't know if they put my child up to do this. Did they threaten or scare him to do something like this?" she asked. Walker says that even with a bandana on, it should have been obvious that Jaqures was just a child. "I'm going to keep asking and I want to know what happened, the truth, however long it takes. I'm not giving up till I find out the truth," Walker said.
The District Attorney's office is reviewing the case to determine if any charges will be filed against the man.
