Anniston Police are investigating what appears to be a shootout between two different groups of males at a convenience store. The shooting left a bystander injured and left bullet holes in one of the gas pumps. One man was taken into custody. It happened at the Victory Fuels store located at 2630 Noble Street, between 4:30 and 5:15 p.m. Sunday. One woman, who police identified only as a 38-year-old woman from Saks, sustained a chest wound and was treated at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham. Her condition was not known Monday. Witnesses describe a chaotic scene, with people ducking in cars or the store or laying down on the ground to dodge the gunfire. Manish Patel, who owns the Victory Fuels store, recalled what happened while he was on duty. "Two cars parked over there, one car green car, one white car, they park over the number two pump on that side," Patel said, "and this one pickup pulled up on number one pump, and they were just shooting each other, both of them. Both cars did the shooting." "I ducked down here, because I know that bullets do not have eyes," Lancaster said. Police Sgt. Josh Doggrell says the Anniston Police crime lab collected evidence not only at the Victory Fuels station, but also a nearby house on West 20th Street. They noted there were lots of reports of gunfire in West Anniston on Sunday. Police have arrested and charged 23-year-old Michael Anthony Brown of Anniston with first degree assault. They say they expect to make more arrests. Police aren't saying how the two groups of shooters knew each other, but they say the bystander apparently didn't know any of them and was an innocent victim.
