Two people were hurt Friday afternoon when the small airplane they were riding in crashed into a lake in Talladega County.
The Talladega County Sheriff's office stated that a small airplane crashed into Cedar Creek in Fayetteville around 3 p.m.
Two people were on board. The sheriff's department said both victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries. One was transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham while the other was taken to a hospital in Sylacauga. Witnesses say the plane was flying low and seemed to have brushed a tree before crashing into a marshy area of the lake.
The plane is an Aviat Aircraft A-1B. It is equipped for landing on water, which is why the community says seeing the plane is common. The FAA did not know the circumstances surrounding the crash, but had a crew from Birmingham investigating.
