Kenmonte Jacobe Winsley, 23, has been arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of Dequirea Royal. The shooting happened Friday, April 6 at Royal's apartment in Constantine Homes in Anniston. When officers responded to the scene, they found 24-year-old Royal already deceased with a gunshot wound to her head.
At the time, Royal was serving as a sergeant in the Alabama National Guard Royal with the 167th Forward Support Company in Oxford. She was schedule to deploy to Afghanistan in June. Winsley, of Anniston, was served with the murder warrant this morning while already incarcerated at the Calhoun County Jail on unrelated charges. He remains in the jail under a $75,000 bond for the murder charge. He will appear in court June 11 for a preliminary hearing and Anniston Police investigators continue to work this case.
