An Anniston City Council member that has not been attending meetings and events has resigned. The Anniston city manager received David Dawson's letter of resignation on Tuesday morning. Dawson had stopped attending meetings without any word or notice to why. Colleagues of Dawson said that this was very unusual behavior for the councilman.
Anniston Mayor Gene Robinson says his attempts to contact Dawson were received with no response.
The issue will be discussed Tuesday night at a regularly scheduled meeting. The city council will have to find a replacement for the councilor within the next 3 meetings. Dawson was elected in 2008 and was 6 months away from the end of his 1st term. No reason has been given as to his absence and resignation, but it may or may not be related to Dawson being sued in a Calhoun County court for sexual harassment. The plaintiff in the case says Dawson made unwanted physical advances towards her. Dawson has not yet responded publicly to the lawsuit.
