CHEROKEE COUNTY-AL - Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver says a teenager drowned Saturday afternoon while swimming with friends. 17-year-old Joshua Woods of Centre was swimming with a group of friends and jumped off a pier in Weiss Lake, which is north of Cedar Bluff. The incident occurred around 3:30 PM. Sheriff Shaver says the teen jumped into the lake and did not know how to swim. The water was around nine feet at that location.
The Marine Police, Cherokee County Rescue Squad, and Cherokee County Sheriff's Office assisted in the recovery of the teen's body.
