A house in Northport now sits vacant after its owner, 50-year-old Greta Johnson was found dead 10 miles away in an abandoned trailer last Thursday. A little more than a week after workers clearing the trailer found her body, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's investigators say they've found her killers. "We have developed what we feel is a strong case that they are the ones that took her to that location and caused her death by blunt force trauma," Captain Loyd Baker said. After countless hours of interviews Baker and his team have charged three people in Johnson's murder: 34-year-old Cynthia Mack; her husband, 32-year-old Leroy Hines; and 28-year-old Jeffery Sanders. They were known to have been acquaintances of Johnson's. All three are charged with Capital Murder. Baker said that these charges were made because a murder took place during the crime of kidnapping.
Mack and Sanders were arrested recently but Hines was already incarcerated on unrelated charges including domestic violence, resisting arrest, second degree assault and violation of protection from abuse. All three will be held without bond at the Tuscaloosa County Jail. "They knew her prior to this and it was reported that she owed them money and she was unable to pay and we think that's what caused her death," Baker said. Latara Bailey lives across the street from Johnson's home. Other than the occasional hello, she didn't really talk to her neighbor. But recently she says she did see some out of the ordinary comings and goings. "A couple of guys would come through who we was not aware of or pretty much didn't ever see their face," she said. "It's always surprising when someone goes missing. Especially when they're right beside you," said another neighbor, Terrell Elmore. Like Latara, Elmore didn't have lengthy conversations with Johnson. "[She was] private, she wasn't out in the yard much," he said. Johnson may have been a quiet woman but now neighbors are questioning what went on behind these walls.
