The Alabama Senate expects to consider legislation designed to curb the illegal production of methamphetamine by making it harder to buy cold and allergy medicine with ephedrine and pseudoephedrine. The bill is near the top of the agenda that the Senate Rules Committee expects to the recommend Tuesday. It would allow ephedrine and pseudoephedrine to be sold only in licensed pharmacies. Convenience stores and other retail businesses could no longer sell the over-the-counter product. The bill also the amount of the product that a person can buy. The bill by Republican Rep. Blaine Galliher passed the House last month with one dissenting vote.
