The University of Alabama football team had its annual A-Day scrimmage Saturday afternoon. The final football practice tends to draw a large crowd and this year was no different. Lines formed long before the gates to Bryant-Denny stadium opened. "I come to watch Dee Hart #1 run that football. He's supposed to be our next premier star," said Tony Minor from Cullman. Minor is just one of the many faithful football fans from around the state who descended on Tuscaloosa this weekend, but he's probably the only fan wearing a Santa hat. "I come down here during the Alabama LSU game and had my Santa suit on, my own beard, and I had 500 pictures of me took while I was down here," said Minor, "And I thought I would come down here and start off the year right to holler 'roll tide roll.'" While some fans attended the scrimmage to yell "roll tide" and check out the team's new talent, other fans had a different agenda: shopping. "Just looking for some things for my grandchildren," said Janie Anderson from Huntsville, "I have a lot of stuff so I like to buy for them. Shirts and everything." "Some great looking t-shirts, sunglasses, anything Alabama really," said Dyana Anderson from Atmore. During Nick Saban's first year as head coach at Alabama over 92,000 fans filled Bryant-Denny stadium for A-Day. Ever since then Tuscaloosa police say this has become more than just a spring scrimmage. "We treat A-Day just like we do any other gameday whether it was a normal game with a visiting team," said Lt. Brad Mason with the Tuscaloosa Police Department, "We have the same number of people staffing it. We have officers working intersections." Because A-Day has the feel of a normal football game, fans hope this is the beginning of another winning season. "I think we're gonna have us another championship year," said Anderson. "I think they're gonna do great. From everything I've seen and heard from Saban and all of them, I think they're going to have a good team," said Richardson. "I think we'll win another national championship. Now I ain't just saying that because I'm an Alabama football fan. I actually think we'll go 14-0 this year," said Minor.
