A jury has found former Auburn University football player, Antonio Goodwin, guilty of armed robbery in the first-degree for robbing five students at gunpoint in March of 2011.
Testimony ended Friday morning. Thursday, Goodwin's defense attorney had said she would call Coach Gene Chizik to the stand to testify, however decided not to after the district attorney's office objected to her asking questions about drug testing and spice or synthetic marijuana use on the team. The Judge agreed with the objection and the defense rested.
Several former and current Auburn University football players testified the night of the robbery they were all smoking spice and drinking beer, when Goodwin, Dakota Mosley, Michael McNeal and Shaun Kitchens started talking about robbing someone because they were broke.
Goodwin's defense attorney seemed to try and persuade the jury that her clients spice use the night of the crime altered his judgment. The jury heard Goodwin's written confession to police, admitting his involvement in the crime.
Goodwin did not take the stand in his own defense. He's the first of four Auburn football players to go to trial after they were arrested for the armed robbery and kicked off the national championship football team.
