Tuscaloosa, AL - Vinnie Sunseri is trying to replace Alabama All-America safety Mark Barron and adjust to life without having his father at practice every day. The Crimson Tide sophomore's father, Sal, left in January to become rival Tennessee's defensive coordinator.
He had been Alabama's assistant head coach and linebackers coach the past three seasons.
Sunseri stayed put instead of going to Knoxville with him.
He and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix are vying to replace Barron.
He says he watches film of Barron to see how he handled situations and Tide coaches constantly stress "how he would do it."
Sunseri got some experience last season, recording 31 tackles.
He got a head-start by enrolling last January, ahead of the highly-touted Clinton-Dix.
It's a key battle on a defense replacing three secondary starters.
