The Auburn Tigers held their final practice session before A-Day on Friday morning, working two hours in full pads on the practice fields at the Auburn Athletics Complex. New defensive coordinator Brian Van Gorder is looking forward to A-Day. "I don't view it as really any different (from a normal scrimmage). The environment will be different, but what we need to get accomplished will be specific to the function and execution of our defense. That's where we've got to be focused.
"We're trying to ascend daily. We've got to get better daily. I guess if there was maybe something different, we should be guaranteed different situations in a football game. In practice sometimes, you're hitting (certain) situations for emphasis. Tomorrow, we get all the different situations in a game that will allow our guys to grow and function in those situations based on what we do." Offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler is looking for Auburn's A-Day offense to "go out and be physical, execute, and get guys out there on their own a little bit. Any time you have the opportunity, as young as our team is, to go out into stadium, be out in the huddle by themselves and breaking the huddle - we need that work. "In all reality, when you start something brand new the way we have, of course you want to get further along than what we got, but it's been very, very productive. We installed some base fundamental things in that we wanted to get in and we will continue to grow." Saturday is A-Day. Auburn will unveil statues commemorating the school's three Heisman Trophy winners, Pat Sullivan, Bo Jackson, and Cam Newton, in a ceremony at 10 a.m. CT prior to Auburn's annual spring game. The ceremony will take place on the east side of Jordan-Hare Stadium, where each statue will be permanently located. Sullivan, Jackson and Newton are scheduled to be in attendance for the event.
A-Day tickets are $5 for general fans and free for AU students with an Auburn Ignited card. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance to avoid waiting in line on April 14. To purchase tickets visit www.aubtix.com.
