The identity of the body found in missing Shelby County woman Elaine Gentry's car will likely not be released until tomorrow.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office sent a release around 4 p.m. Thursday saying they are still waiting on the Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner's Office to confirm the identity of the body discovered inside the SUV recovered yesterday from the Shale Road rock quarry in Leeds.
"There is no confirmed identity of the body at this time. Dental records will be used in the identification and a forensic odontologist is unavailable at this time," the press release says. The Jefferson County Coroner says the ondontologist needed to complete the forensic report should be available Friday.
Divers removed Elaine Gentry's vehicle from the quarry in Leeds Wednesday afternoon. The Shelby County Sheriff confirmed that a body was discovered inside the vehicle, but would not confirm whether or not it was Gentry. The sheriff does say, however, that this was no accident and he believes foul play was involved. Investigators found the SUV underwater in the quarry after tracing a cell phone that led them to the general area. Several sites were targeted to be searched as a result of the cell phone track, including the quarry where they found Gentry's car. Gentry has been reported missing since March 29. She was last heard from on March 28.
