The SUV belonging to missing Shelby County woman Elaine Gentry is expected to be removed from the rock quarry where it was discovered yesterday.
Divers have worked today collecting photographic evidence of the exterior and interior of the vehicle and the surrounding area as it sits more than 40 feet under water in a quarry near Leeds.
Authorities hope to have the vehicle removed from the quarry by 7 p.m. this evening, though it could be earlier. Once they have done so, investigators will take the SUV back to Shelby County to complete their investigation. Divers were not able to determine yesterday whether or not Gentry is inside and the Shelby County Sheriff's Office announced they had found Gentry's car at a press conference called Tuesday at 5 p.m. The conference was held at Shale Road and Hwy 78, near the rock quarry.
Shelby County Sheriff Chris Curry says he now suspects foul play in the case, due to the location of the SUV in the quarry. The Chelsea woman has been missing since March 29. Several federal agencies and the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office have been helping with the investigation. Check by with wdng.net for updates on this developing story.
