Convicted killer Timothy Richards went from serving life in prison to life on the run.
His escape from the C A Farquhar State Cattle Ranch leaves many in nearby Greensboro angry and on edge. Corrections Department spokesman Brian Corbett stated:
"What concerns me is being in his presence and without me knowing," Kelvin Thomas said. Richards was being held for killing one of his wife's other two husbands in 1997. The 42-year-old disappeared from the minimum security prison Sunday.
Floyd Taylor, an 82-year-old who lives in Akron and comes to Greensboro often for lunch, wants to why he wasn't under closer supervision.
"I'm not happy about it and I want to know how he got away," Taylor said. State Corrections officials don't know how Richards escaped or aren't saying. "The escape is still under investigation. The Department of Public Safety is using a helicopter to search at the Cattle Ranch." Corbett says until this weekend, Richards wasn't considered a risk. He was actually eligible for parole next May. The State Cattle Ranch is a minimum security prison just outside Greensboro city limits. Inmates work on a variety of community service projects when they're not working on the ranch. FOX6 News even found one inmate working inside a downtown Greensboro business while talking to residents about Richards' escape.
Richards is described as a white male, 6 foot 4 inches tall, weighing 230 pounds, with blue eyes and blonde hair. The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force is assisting with locating and apprehending Richards. If you have information regarding the whereabouts of this individual, please contact your local law enforcement agency.
