There are a lot of changes for Alabama Adventure, first a new name, Alabama Splash Adventure Waterpark, and the addition of new rides and the selling of the amusement park ones. Park managers state that in their research, more visitors prefer water rides. But the shift comes with a significant cut in staffing. In fact, the park's owner Kent Lemasters says they'll cut 100 jobs initially but will add more as the parks' features expand.
Lemasters and tourism officials agree, that in time, the new park will draw more people and more dollars.
"From Gulf Shores to the Cahaba River, just a few miles from here, those are two examples of the natural water recreations we have and now we can add a fantastic man-made water adventure," says Grey Brennan, regional director for Central Alabama Tourism.
"We want to bring new visitors into this market which will bring more jobs to other businesses we are going to market some in Montgomery Huntsville and Mississippi markets also," Lemasters says.
