Anniston police arrested a suspect in an alleged shooting Tuesday, according to police reports.
Shronta Marie Clifton, 27, was arrested and charged with first degree assault by police officers responding to a shooting call yesterday afternoon at the Constantine Homes apartment complex on Elm Street in Anniston.
The victim, a 27-year-old female, was taken to Regional Medical Center. Police Lt. Fred Forsythe said Wednesday morning that the victim was in stable condition.
According to the police report, an argument took place between the victim and the suspect. Their relationship was unclear, but Forsythe said they did know each other and the residence where the incident took place didn’t belong to either the victim or the suspect.
Forsythe said depending on the injuries and the seriousness of the incident, the district attorney could change the charge to attempted murder.
Clifton will be transported today to Calhoun County Jail. Currently no bail has been set.
