Investigators now state that four people, including a family of 3, were hit in Saturday's accident after the Regional Air Show. We've also learned the youngest victim in that family could be released from the hospital as early as today. The Burk family, who is from Chilton County, was walking east on the side of 5th Street in Northport. Authorities claim 64-year-old Danny Ray Smith was travelling east on 5th Street too when he swerved off the road and into a crowd. "According to the witnesses that were closest to the victim, the victims were off the road. The truck veered off the road and struck four people," Capt. Loyd Baker of the Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Unit said. Officers said the driver Danny Ray Smith drove about 200 yards after the accident before he stopped. The crash killed 8-year-old Haley Burks, sent her 28-year-old mother Tonya, who is stable but in intensive care, to DCH Medical Center, and her 3-year-old sister Natallee to Birmingham's Children's Hospital. Baker believes Natallee could be released any day now. Neighbors living across from Kentuck Park where the accident happened thought it was a fender bender at first. Ollie Prince stated, "next thing I know, it was an ambulance, fire truck and another ambulance." Authorities believe the driver, who owns Dixie Air at the Tuscaloosa Regional Airport, had left an air show watch party before the crash happened. Northport police arrested Smith on DUI charges. He now faces charges including vehicular homicide, assault and leaving the scene of an accident. Smith bonded out of the Tuscaloosa County jail Sunday afternoon.
