Fire and aviation authorities are investigating a small plane crash in St. Clair County. It happened just before 6 PM in an Odenville neighborhood. The pilot and his passenger have minor injuries.
In the Woodland Ridge neighborhood in Odenville. There are homes all around the crash site, but luckily, the pilot was able to steer it into an open field. Neighbors who saw it happen told us the plane glided to it's landing. The good news is both the pilot and passenger are going to be ok. "Luckily he found this open land because there is really not any open area around here," Drake Riley, who witnessed the crash said. Drake Riley was out walking his dog, when he watched it all unfold. "The motor wasn't running," Riley said. "It glided in and crash landed in the field over across from my house. I grabbed my dog up and ran over there to them and screamed to some other neighbors to call 911." The two seater private plane went down just before 6pm in a small field surrounded by homes. "They are basically minor injuries limited to muscular skeletal type injuries - things of that sort. No significant injuries," Chief Tom Dixon, Margaret Fire said. 'The guy looked like his face was all bloody and the girl - she may have had her nose broken - I'm not sure," Riley said. "They looked like they were in shock but they said they were fine." The Margaret firefighters tell us, the pilot was treated on the scene. His passenger has been transported to UAB. There were no other injuries or homes damaged. "I would say it is a good situation that there were no more significant injuries than what there were," Chief Dixon said. A cause has not yet been determined. Right now, St. Clair officers are monitoring the crash site until the FAA arrives for their investigation.
