Alabama's largest seasonal employer held a job fair Saturday. Hundreds of applicants flocked to Alabama Adventure and waited in very long lines. The amusement and water park is looking to hire roughly 300 people. Human Resources Manager Chuck Taylor said they expected about 600 people to apply for the openings.
Katherine Stinnett, 18, is a senior at Bibb County High School. She was one of the hundreds of people who stood in line, waiting for an opportunity to work for Alabama Adventure. The teenager who brought along her resume, was prepared to wait for a job. "whenever you go apply for a job, you should be willing to go through any different circumstances. So, I think I would wait all day here if I had to."
Another couple was busy preparing while waiting in line. Alexander Ryannalley's fiancee made sure he was ready by sticking a pen in his shirt pocket. Ryannalley said, "I was prepared because she has everything I needed." The couple met while working for the park last year. Shortly after the summer ended, the pair began dating. Now, they're engaged to be married in June. After gaining a relationship during the previous summer, they believe they'll gain a family after this summer. The couple is expecting a baby. That's one reason Ryannalley is looking for supplemental income.
Although the application line was really long, it moved pretty quickly. "We use folks who've worked with us before that are familiar with the process so that we can get folks in quickly and comfortably," said Human Resource Director Chuck Taylor. Once applicants got inside the gates, they were given an application. Then, there is another line to wait in for a while. Once in the front of that line, applicants sit down in an interview with Alabama Adventure staff members. Before applicants leave, Taylor said they would have an appointment for a call back interview. The second round of interviews will have over the next two weeks. Potential employees will have orientation, individual departmental training and then they will be ready to start work when the park opens May 12.
