Calhoun County authorities and U.S. Marshals are searching for a suspect who escaped from the county jail Tuesday night. LaQuita Decree Mitchell, 29, was waiting to be processed into the Calhoun County Jail last night around 5 p.m. when he escaped by blending in with a group of inmates that were being released. Mitchell was being transferred from the Anniston Police Department on charges of 1st degree possession of marijuana and 1st degree possession of drug paraphernalia. The sheriff also plans to charge Mitchell with first-degree escape.
Deputies and Marshals have searched the area around the jail and are continuing to look for Mitchell. Anyone with information in this case should contact the Calhoun County Crime Stoppers at 256-238-1414.
