The Samford football team held its final practice before taking next week off for Spring Break Thursday evening at Seibert Stadium.
The Bulldogs have now practiced nine times this spring. Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said, despite Spring Break beginning in just a couple of days, he thought his team had a good workout on Thursday.
"I thought we had a really good practice today," Sullivan said. "It's never as good as you think or as bad as you think, but I was pleased with today."
The Bulldogs practiced for about 12 periods and then ran about 20 plays of 11-on-11 work. Sullivan said he saw some positives in all three phases of the game.
"When we started the defense kind of dominated things," Sullivan said. "Then in the second part, the offense came back and made some big plays and scored a couple of touchdowns. I thought our kicking game was solid."
Sullivan said he has been pleased with the work his team has put in so far this spring.
"We have a lot of work to do," Sullivan said. "But, I thought our first half of spring practice was good."
Samford University will be off next week for Spring Break. The Bulldogs will take the week off before returning to practice on Monday, March 26.
Sullivan said the team will look to continue to build on the progress it has made so far this spring.
"We will continue working on our fundamentals," Sullivan said. "We'll continue trying to get the young ones better. There are still a lot of unproven positions. This is a team that needs a lot of reps, so we'll try to get as many reps as we can."
The Bulldogs will scrimmage on Saturday, March 31. The team will wrap up spring practice with a scrimmage on April 4.
