A hit and run in Georgia led authorities to a murder victim in Haleyville.
Authorities say a man had crashed a car registered to Danny Baxter of Haleyville in Winston County. When he got out of the vehicle, he was killed in a hit and run.
Authorities responded to the scene Tuesday and found the car was registered to Baxter, not the hit and run victim. Haleyville police went to Baxter's apartment to tell him about his car, but discovered he had been murdered.
"They actually went in the apartment and found him upstairs on the floor and his face was just black and blue. Blood was everywhere," said Wendy Franco, Baxter's niece.
Franco believes the men who beat her uncle to death are the same people who stole his car. Witnesses say they saw two men at Baxter's apartment the day he was murdered.
