(SPM Wire) If it feels like there are not enough hours in the day, consider these tips for boosting your book intake.
• Schedule it: After a busy day, spending an evening in front of the TV may seem like the best course of action. But curling up with a good book can be just as relaxing. Try reading for 20 minutes before turning on your favorite show.
• Be picky: Once upon a time, much of what you read was guided by a school curriculum. Take advantage of the total freedom you have now to read exactly what you want. Don’t like a book? Put it down and start a new one. You’ll be more likely to pick up a book and read if it doesn’t seem like a chore.
• Start a club: Make reading fun by getting friends together for some thoughtful discussion. A book club, with its set meeting dates and (mild) social pressure, is the perfect motivator to keep those pages turning. Be sure to select group members based on taste and interests.
From improved concentration to expanded knowledge, reading is beneficial in numerous ways. Take time to make it a habit.
