Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is hitting the southern states hard hoping for a chance to pull ahead in the road to the White House. Saturday night, he's in Hoover and meeting loads of supporters. It was standing room only inside the Winfrey Hotel. He spoke to hundreds of his supporters who say, it's his viewpoint on critical issues and experience in Washington that makes him stand out from the rest.
With only 3 days left before Alabama voters get to the polls, Newt Gingrich is amping up his campaign.
If he falls behind in the polls in southern states- it may mean an end to his candidacy. But Representative Jack Williams from Vestavia says, with a couple rallies this week, he has the momentum he needs.
"The deck will be reshuffled and this will refocus into a race which will leave moderate Mitt Romney, conservative Newt Gingrich," Rep. Jack Williams (R) said. "Conservatives will rally around Newt Gingrich and he will be the nominee of the Republican Party." The issue most supporters told us they want to hear is the one they carry on signs. "My goal is to get to a point where no American President has to bow to a Saudi king," Newt Gingrich, (R) Presidential Candidate said. 'This is the $2.50 gallon gasoline process that Newt has been talking about," Michael Muscari, a supporter said. "By drilling here, drilling now and taking advantage of the resources we have." Another topic causing the crowd to erupt into cheers was his passion for southern grits. "Gov. Romney indicated yesterday that he had finally tried grits," Gingrich said. "I just want you to know, that as a Georgian, I understand grits." "He's been in Washington," Steve O'Neill, a supporter said. "He knows the ropes. He's familiar with the players there and I think he's the only one who can beat Obama." "It's just very powerful to me and that's why I am here tonight," Melanie O'Neil, a supporter said. "I want to hear more of it and I can't get enough of it!"
