On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court refused at request that the Claims Administrator for the settlement related the 2010 Gulf of Mexico disaster suspend payments for claims related to economic losses. This action temporarily upholds the recent ruling by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans. That ruling stated that BP had to comply with the original settlement terms, which it had helped author. Those terms required that businesses claiming damages did not need to prove direct harm. They only needed to show that they suffered an economic loss during that period.
