Long-time visitors and fans of WDNG.net have probably noticed several changes over the past couple of weeks – and will notice several improvements being implemented just about daily. We are currently in the process of rebranding this site as InfignosMedia.com. The primary reason for the change is to reflect our embarking on our vision of creating a multi-station New Media entity that is more responsive the local audience in Anniston and Oxford in Northeast Alabama and to lay the groundwork for our goals of expanding into a North American media network. Frankly, using the same letters in our domain name as is used in the call sign of a local radio station does not accurately reflect our much larger plans.
Very soon you will start seeing that numerous radio stations will be affiliated with this project. Our next step then will be to expand our affiliations to other commercial radio stations in Alabama prior to going nationwide and then continent wide. Our goal is to present various types of media content, which is either produced in-house by buyersUSA Consulting or by our affiliated stations. In turn, we will support a wide range of advertisers, who may have only a local interest as well as those that may want to reach customers in their state, in their region, nationally, or internationally.
In less than two and a half years WDNG.net has grown from a very low Alexa.com Traffic Rank of well over 16 million to a very competitive number that hovered right around 300,000. (The lower Traffic Rank means that the website is getting a larger amount of traffic.) This meant that this site was clearly the top radio-oriented website in Alabama. While we have not reviewed every radio website in the Southeast, after examining Traffic Rank for the major stations in Miami, Nashville, Memphis, and Atlanta, we sincerely believe that our site is the top one in the region. As we rebrand the site and over the next six months complete the redirection of traffic to InfignosMedia.com, we are positive that not only will we retain our pinnacle position among radio stations, but also soon surpass several of the top newspaper and television-oriented sites.
WDNG.net started in January 2012, when buyersUSA Consulting acquired the domain from a small consulting firm in Southern California. We had the dream of working together with a local 1,000 Watt news talk radio station as we had hoped to use the site to turn it into a regional media company. Therefore, the design of the new site was based upon major radio sites in Los Angeles, Miami, and Atlanta. The new design was dramatically different than the small six page, relatively unmanaged site that the station had become accustomed to. It was always our intention to use this site – or at least the design as a template – to support stations in other cities.
Since January 2013, the growth and reach of WDNG.net has grown rapidly and much faster than anticipated. In addition to its dominance in station’s local broadcast area, the site was gaining rapid popularity throughout Alabama, nationally, and even internationally. Based upon our numbers, the station’s management frequently used numbers such as 70% to describe the percentage of traffic that they were getting through the site in relationship to their listenership through their broadcast tower. Although the site has benefited the station greatly, it came clear that the needs and goals of the station were much different that those set by buyersUSA Consulting for the site. Therefore, a decision was made to disengage the joint venture as of May 31, 2014, so that the station and buyersUSA Consulting could better pursue their individual goals.
Currently, we are at the stage that involves redirecting the old WDNG.net traffic to the new domain. Most of the work has been completed regarding that task although it will take a minimum of six months for all of the remaining accomplishments of WDNG.net to finally redirect to the new site. Still we have several features on the site that refer to the original radio station. Many of these features will be removed or downgraded to the same level of services that we will provide all of our affiliated stations and any other station that we choose to highlight. The goal is to give our audience a wider range of entertaining, informative, and compelling content.
Lastly, why Infignos Media? We coined the word “Infignos” in the late 1990’s to serve as a domain name for what used to be our National Business Directory. Unfortunately, we found out that there had been a very unsavory business in Colorado that was using that name. Like Google and Yahoo, we wanted something truly unique. Hence, we came up with Infignos, which is a combination of the Latin and Greek words for infinity and knowledge. By the way, the “g” is silent. In addition to the previously existing, very high Traffic Rank by the name of Infignos.com, for this site we added the word “Media” to represent our desire to operate as a multi-media company and marketing agency.
