Verizon Wireless is looking to hire more than 400 workers in Alabama this year, Governor Robert Bentley announced in a statement Tuesday. The carrier already employs more than 1,600 across the state.
Gov. Bentley said more than 300 of the available positions will be for customer-service related opportunities, at the Huntsville call center. Remaining positions will be in retail stores.
Mayor Tommy Battle said Verizon's announcement is proof of the "talented, intelligent" workforce in Huntsville, Madison County and the state as a whole.
"Today's announcement that Verizon will create over 400 jobs in Alabama is a testament to the strength of the pro-business climate we have worked hard to create in Alabama," Bentley said.
People interested in applying for these positions can apply online at the Verizon jobs site. The job number to look for is 350080.
An open house career event will be held at Verizon's state headquarters in Huntsville, 475 Quality Circle, on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Selected candidates who applied online will receive an invitation for a scheduled interview at this event.
No incentives were part of Verizon's expansion deal. "This was part of normal business growth," a Verizon representative said.
