Kerryon Johnson is just one of many brutal Auburn-Bama recruiting battles that will happen this year.
On Tuesday, it was Auburn 1, Bama 0.
Johnson is the nation’s No. 2 ranked “athlete”, the category that describes a versatile star who could change games at several positions. He has starred at running back at Madison Academy in Alabama, but he could also find himself in the secondary. It really doesn’t matter which way he goes, the 6-foot-0, 200-pound prospect is going to be a game changer. At one point, it looked like Florida State had a strong shot at landing him too, but it was not to be for the national champions. He made the decision public early Tuesday afternoon from his high school.
Johnson Tweeted his announcement intentions over the weekend, saying he’d like to get it over with on Tuesday. Johnson is rated the No. 37 overall prospect in America, and the second-best prospect in the state of Alabama behind defensive lineman Daron Payne. He was a huge target for all three powerhouses. He will play in the 2015 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
Johnson helped lead Madison County to a state championship this past fall, rushing for 1,548 yards and 22 TDs. He also had 36 tackles and five interceptions on defense for his undefeated team.
