Anniston police want to warn you about a money scam.
Investigators say on April 4, an 83-year-old Anniston woman reported being defrauded out of $35,680.00. The victim told investigators she was contacted by an individual allegedly representing a Hong Kong Bank in reference to the victim winning $500,000. The suspect told the victim she needed to pay the taxes on the prize and he would collect the money. Over a period from March 4, 2014 to April 4, 2014, the victim sent a total of $35,680.00. The victim called police to report she did not receive any prize money and the suspect was no longer taking his calls.
Police say this scam is popular and targets the elderly.
