A Maylene mother arrested after her infant son's body was found inside her burning car has been indicted for reckless murder.
Authorities found Sommer Wilford, 22, standing outside of her burning car near the First Commercial Bank in Alabaster just after midnight on Friday, Feb. 28. Her car had wrecked on Highway 119 at Kent Dairy Road and was on fire when officials got to the scene.
Firefighters discovered the remains of Wilford's 19-month-old son, Jayden Allen, inside the vehicle. Officials arrested Wilford at the scene and charged her with reckless murder.
She was indicted on the charge on April 2. She is being held in the Shelby County Jail on a $300,000 bond.
Wilford's arraignment is set for May 5 at 8:30 a.m.
