The Federal Emergency Management Agency has rejected requests for aid from two Alabama communities struck by storms in January.
FEMA rejected requests from Center Point and Clay, which had sought help to pay for storm debris removal. FEMA ruled that the state fell below the statewide level of uninsured damage, which is more than $6 million from the Jan. 23 storms.
Officials say Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley decided not to appeal the decision.
Jefferson County is helping the two cities by allowing them to dump debris in the county landfill at no cost.
Center Point officials say they will have to dip into their budget to cover the cost of debris removal.
