The search has ended for a boater who went missing in Lay Lake last month. The body of Steve Tripp was found Wednesday evening near the River Walk subdivision boat ramp. That's between Childersburg and Fayetteville.
Talladega County Coroner Shaddix Murphy stated that the remains were found three miles down river from where the accident happened. Teenagers fishing at the boat launch made the discovery. Murphy confirms Tripp had blunt-force trauma in the crash, which likely knocked him unconscious. Then, Shaddix reports, he died from drowning.
The boat wreck happened February 18 near an island in the Coosa River, just down from the U.S. 280 bridge. Alabama Marine Police say Tripp was traveling more than 120 miles per hour when the crash happened. Tripp owned a boating company called Revolution Performance Marine. Friends say he often tested out the boats in that section of the river.
