I just received this information from Mr. Steve Henry of Rainy Day Patriots. Asking everyone to please do all that you can to stop Common Core in Alabama!
TWO STOP COMMON CORE
EVENTS NEXT WEEK!
TUESDAY-MAR 11th
PUBLIC HEARING ON COMMON CORE BILL
On Tuesday, March 11, at 10:00am in room 304 of the AL State House, there will be a public hearing on Sen. Scott Beason's Bill (SB443) which allows for a partial moratorium on Common Core until Jan. 2017. It also allows local school districts to opt-out of Common Core and it has some very important data collection protections written into it. The opposition will be there in force-we need you! We would like to have as many people as possible to speak (1-2 minutes) in favor of this bill. Come early and show your support -the room will be packed. This is a public hearing so the committee will not be voting on it until Wednesday.
WEDNESDAY-MAR 12th
MEET AT THE STATE HOUSE TO LOBBY
LEGISLATORS -THEY MUST HEAR FROM YOU!
Join the Rainy Day Patriots, the AL Legislative Watchdogs and citizens from across the state on Wed. March 12th at the State House. We will meet on the steps at 11:00am and listen to Sen Scott Beason talk about his newest Common Core bill (SB443). A few others will be speaking as well. After that we'll organize into groups and visit legislators to tell them how we feel about Common Core and why we want them to support SB443. If you have never visited the state house this will be a great education for you. We will be going in groups so it won't be as "intimidating" as if you were going by yourself.
