(WDNG) - State Troopers say a fatal car crash on Monday may have been tied to alcohol.
Alabama Department of Public Safety Sgt. Steve Jarrett says 24-year-old Joanie Amanda Patterson, of Boaz, was killed when the vehicle she was riding in left the road and struck an embankment.
25-year-old Brandon C. Roach, of Boaz, was reportedly driving the vehicle when it crashed on Sand Valley Road, about 10 miles west of Attalla. State Troopers say the driver suffered serious injuries in the Monday wreck and was transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham.
A preliminary investigation indicates alcohol may have been a factor in the fatal crash and seat belts were reportedly not used.
State Troopers say they will continue their investigation.
