The IRS warns Alabamians against a scam that promises a nonexistent education tax credit in exchange for a high fee.
Scammers claim that people can get a stimulus payment or tax credit to help pay for college, even if the applicant has never been to college or graduated decades ago.
IRS spokesman Dan Boone says the scam is similar to ones identified in Alabama last summer. The scheme is under investigation.
