(WDNG) - Thick smoke seen south of Anniston and Oxford on Monday is part of controlled burns in the Talladega National Forest.
U.S. Forest officials on Monday afternoon said about 2,500 acres were being burned as part of fire control in the national forest.
Dispatchers say they have not heard of any problems with fire crews accessing parts of the national forest after an ice storm two weeks ago shut down Cheaha State Park.
Another burn is expected to occur on Tuesday near Lake Chinnabee.
