My 2nd hour guest and topic for Pamela's Place today:
Are Death Panels a Real Threat in the Future of Obamacare?
Alzheimer’s Advocate Says Government’s Fallibility is Nothing to Take Lightly
The government plays a role in a broad range of public-private partnerships. On the good side we have NASA, which routinely joins forces with private companies to advance our understanding of the universe, and humanity’s place in it.
On the scary side we have the horror stories involving Blackwater, which has been renamed twice since the most recent Iraq War in an effort rebrand its negative image.
Sometimes, combining the arbitrary power of the federal government with the potential greed of a corporation can unleash a nightmare.
John P. Goetz, author of a blog, “My Three Moms,” about his mother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, imagines the worst-case scenario of today’s most talked about public-private partnership – the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, in “The Protocol,”
It’s really not a polemic against the president; despite his best intentions, however, we’ve seen in this country what can happen with massive government policies in recent history,” Goetz says. “For those who favor an improved health-care system in the U.S., ask yourself: Is it really that far-fetched that government might eventually get to decide your personal heath decisions? Just look how invasive the NSA has become – supposedly for our own good!”
Imagine a pacemaker, or similar device, keeping your grandfather alive. Now, imagine a government-controlled health-care provider with a “kill-switch.” What happens when the cost of keeping Grandpa alive outweighs his value to society? Especially in the not-so-distant future, when we’ll have even fewer resources to sustain the world’s population, Goetz says.
“Some might say I’m pandering to paranoid conspiracy theorists, but careful vigilance toward the world’s most powerful entity, the United States government, is quite warranted,” he says.
