Alabama Power says they have restored power to almost 28,000 customers since 10 p.m. Wednesday.
A 2 p.m. update from the company's Twitter account says statewide outages are down to 4,200 with 1,000 in the Birmingham metro, 2,700 in Blount County and 300 in west Alabama.
Crews say falling ice chunks and branches are creating new power problems. Some of the customers lost their power on Thursday mid-to-late morning due to the falling ice.
