(WDNG) - Friday is the deadline for major party candidates in this year’s Alabama elections. The Associated Press reports state Democratic and Republican headquarters are set up to process a rush of candidates vying for about a dozen state offices and even more House and Senate seats in 2014.
A state settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice moved the deadline to February after traditionally being in April to ensure Alabamians living overseas have ample time to return absentee ballots.
Information from the Alabama Democrats website lists 120 candidates running for state and other local offices across Alabama, including Anniston lawyer Taylor Stewart. Stewart is looking to win the state Senate District 12 seat currently held by Republican Del Marsh.
Steve Guede, founder of Calhoun County Rainy Day Patriots, this week announced he will run in Republican primaries against Marsh. All of this comes the week it was announced Calhoun County Republican Party Chairman Gene Howard would resign from his position.
Primary elections will be held on Tuesday, June 3.
